The Nainital Local Food Trail: Where To Eat Beyond The Resort

10 March 20265 min readLocal Discovery

From Bhatt ki Churkani in town to roadside Maggi at Kilbury — a curated list of local food stops that our team personally recommends to every guest.

We are proud of what our kitchen serves, but a hill weekend should include local discovery too. Our team has put together a short food trail covering the spots we personally visit on days off — the places that feel real, taste honest, and give you a flavour of Kumaon beyond the resort walls.

The best food recommendations always come from the people who actually live in the hills.

In Nainital Town

Sakley's for pastries and old-world cafe atmosphere on the Mall Road. Machan for North Indian comfort food with a lake view. Embassy Restaurant for budget-friendly Kumaoni thalis. And the roasted corn and bhutta sellers near Tallital during evening walks — simple, seasonal, and the kind of thing you will miss when you leave the hills.

On The Road

The Maggi point near Kilbury is a non-negotiable stop for anyone driving up to Snow View or Mountain Magic — hot noodles, cold air, and an unbeatable view. The chai stalls between Bhimtal and Nainital serve the kind of ginger tea that defines hill travel. If you are heading toward Mukteshwar, the small dhabas near Ramgarh serve seasonal fruit preserves and fresh juice that are worth a detour.

Our Advice

Ask the front desk for current recommendations — seasonal closures and new openings happen frequently. We are happy to arrange half-day food trail drives for guests who want a guided experience. Just mention it during your stay or add it to your booking request. Kumaoni food is best enjoyed slowly, so plan extra time and go hungry.
